Art

Students take a trip ‘Round The World in Art this year!

The theme for this year in Art is ‘Round The World’ and students have looked at different art forms from countries such as Russia, Italy, Mexico, America, Australia, China and Japan.

Students have been immersed in a ‘Construction’ unit where they have been learning several different techniques to make three dimensional projects including Japanese Bento Boxes and Mexican Nichos. They have constructed models of St Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow and studied Swiss sculptor Giacometti’s elongated figures, and have made some of their very own!

It has been wonderful to see all students thoroughly engaged in their learning in Visual Art classes, building on their skills and techniques from last year and expressing their creativity in many ways.

This term we are completing a unit on ‘Clay.’ Students have enjoyed playing with the clay, some using air dry clay, terracotta clay or Sculpt It, plaster type clay. Each student has made a three-dimensional piece that is based on the work of an artist that we are looking at the moment such as Peter Anton and Wayne Thiebaud,

We can’t wait for you to see the hard work that the students at Strathmore Primary have been working on.
